Children and Nightmares

A friend of mine taught me this trick when my first son was just beginning to have nightmares. If your little one has a nightmare about some sort of monster, have them talk to you about it. Explain that bad dreams are just “movies in their head” and can’t hurt them. Then, tell them this, “The next time you are dreaming about that monster, you tell the monster that if he doesn’t stop, you will go tell his Mommy what he is doing!” Believe it or not, that worked with all three of my children. I always said they should go tell the monster’s mommy what they are doing. It brought the monster down to their level, and made them relax after such a scary dream.
