Eat Healthy to Lower Lead Levels in your Body
Did you know that eating healthy can help to lower lead levels? Absolutely! Eating foods that are rich in iron actually helps to decrease lead absorption. Some good iron sources include chicken, fish, lean red meat, dried beans, peas, cream of wheat, iron-fortified foods and cereals, dried fruit and dark leafy greens.
If you eat something rich in vitamin C with these foods, the iron absorption will increase. If you are taking an iron supplement, drink a glass of orange juice with it to increase iron absorption.
Foods that are high in calcium can decrease the absorption of lead as well. Try to get three servings or more of dairy to increase your calcium intake.
Interestingly, fatty foods will cause your body to retain lead. Avoid both fried and fatty foods to help decrease lead levels in your body. Try removing the skin from your chicken before you cook and broil your meats rather than fry.
And finally, an empty stomach is more prone to lead absorption. Eat healthy snacks in between meals to further increase your body’s ability to decrease the absorption of lead.
