Vitamin D, Pregnancy Complication?

Published by admin at 12:01 am under Pregnancy and Baby

Folic acid is important for expectant mothers to take to help reduce the risks of spinal cord deformities in fetus’ in early pregnancy. But, did you know that there is new evidence in a recent study that suggests pregnant women with low vitamin D increase their chances of having toxemia during late pregnancy? A more in-depth study needs to be done to prove the connection.

Toxemia or Pre-eclampsia usually begins with high blood pressure and can endanger the life of mom and baby. Managing this complication is the only measure that can be taken as there is no treatment to stop toxemia, just to manage it until delivery.

Complications can include kidney failure, stroke, seizures and can be responsible for slowing the growth of a developing fetus. Some women under estimate the importance of taking vitamins during pregnancy, yet evidence to support it is mounting.
