Aqua Dots Toy Recall

Published by admin at 10:06 pm under Product Recalls

Yet another popular toy has been recalled. Aqua Dots was set to be one of the hottest toys on the “Top Ten Christmas Toy List for 2007″, but not anymore. On Nov. 7th, 2007, Aqua Dots were pulled off the shelves as they contain an ingredient found in a powerful date rape drug when ingested and can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death. Three children had to be hospitalized after swallowing the beads.

I can’t imagine how a family in Wisconsin felt when their baby almost died, after swallowing the beads. “I’m thinking, ‘A child’s toy just almost killed my little girl?’” Jason (her father) said. “In 15 minutes, she went from happy to, just, completely unconscious,” his wife added. From what I can tell from the article, Baby Riley ingested about 40 beads, many of which she vomited up later. Her parents believe that that may have saved their daughter’s life. Another frightening event happened when the grandmother went to a local store and found Aqua Beads still on the shelves. She insisted that they remove them and it wasn’t until she called the corporate office that they were finally removed.

I was going to get some Aquadots the very day this story came out. It’s frightening that we can purchase something for our children at any well known store and find it can cause a coma or death! So now we have to worry about not only foods covered in pesticides or injected with hormones, but our children’s toys too!
