Teether Recall, Bacteria in Gel
Luv N’ Care LTD announced a recall on their own today of many different kinds of baby teethers found in the grocery stores Giant Food and Martin’s Food Markets. The teethers are suspected of carrying illness-causing bacteria, according to the FDA.
Brand names “Cottontails,” “Playschool,” and “Nuby” baby teethers’ gel insides may contain Bacillus circulans and Bacillus subtilis bacteria within. The recalled items include Cottontails Fun Pal Teethers and Cottontail Ice Gel Keys at the foresaid stores.
The teethers were sold online as well as through retail locations. They can be identified as a package consisting of a plastic bubble mounted on a printed card.
If the surface of the teether is punctured, the gel can be ingested by child playing with it.
Giant Food reports that the bacteria found does not cause illness usually, “However for children with weakened immune systems, it may cause stomach pain, vomiting and diarrhea if the teether is punctured and the liquid is ingested.”
Luv N’ Care instituted the recall after reports of samples of two different parcels investigated by the FDA were found with the bacteria, although no reports of illness have been disclosed.
They have since ceased production of the recalled teethers and have let distributors to get rid of the items.
Go to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration web site or call 1-800-332-1088 to get more information and a list of the recalled teethers.
You can also take the items and original receipt to any of the stores for a full refund and for more info from the supplier, call Luv N’ Care LTD at 1-800-256-2399.
