Two Red Pandas Rejected by Mother
A white dog seen here is nursing two baby red pandas that had been rejected by their mother at birth. Noone at the Taiyuan Zoo in China was aware that the mother panda was pregnant. Red pandas are furry and plump so her protruding belly was missed by zoo keepers. On June 25 the cubs made their grand appearance in front of a crowd of visitors. After giving birth, the mother of the pandas, immediately rejected the cubs. “We hurriedly went about to find a wet nurse for them,” said an employee at the zoo. The white dog was more than willing to nurse the cubs and at times seemed to prefer them over her own puppy. The cubs are now thriving.
