Go Ahead PETA, Dig that Hole.

Peta is known for using sex and beautiful celebrities to espouse their radical views on animal rights. Eva Mendes, Alicia Silverstone & Khloe Kardashian to name a few, have been used in different ads and campaigns dressed in next to nothing, clearly suggesting that scantily clad thin women are the epitome of a vegetarian, animal-loving lifestyle.
So imagine the surprise when the newest campaign to celebrate PETA’s ideals featured an obese woman dressed in a red polka-dot bikini, with the words, “SAVE THE WHALES, lose the blubber: go vegetarian.” This discriminatory message was featured on a billboard in Jacksonville, FL, and one wonders who this campaign could be appealing to? The ideal woman? Certainly not, as the Eva Mendes and Silverstone type ladies of the world are definitely not the norm.
Much uproar obviously has followed, although it is hardly a surprise that PETA has debuted a controversial campaign, as their messages are always dubious and far-fetched at best. 64% of the population is overweight and the average women weighs far more than the Hollywood standard of 120 lbs.
The animal rights released a statement that only fueled the fire recently, in replying to the uproar following the billboard’s debut.
“A new PETA billboard campaign that was just launched in Jacksonville reminds people who are struggling to lose weight — and who want to have enough energy to chase a beach ball — that going vegetarian can be an effective way to shed those extra pounds that keep them from looking good in a bikini. The ad shows a woman whose “blubber” is spilling over the sides of her swimsuit bottom and features the tagline ‘Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber: Go Vegetarian. PETA.’” Anyone wishing to achieve a hot “beach bod” is reminded that studies show that vegetarians are, on average, about 10 to 20 pounds lighter than meat-eaters.”
“The meat habit can ruin the fun in other ways too. Consuming meat and dairy products is conclusively linked to heart disease, diabetes, and several kinds of cancer — not to mention higher rates of infertility in women and impotence in men. And not only is following a healthy plant-based diet good for the environment, it is also the best thing that anyone can do to help stop the routine abuse of animals raised and killed for food. Animals on factory farms are subjected to mutilations like debeaking, tail-docking, and branding (without any painkillers) and are often slaughtered and dismembered while still conscious. ‘Trying to hide your thunder and balloon belly is no day at the beach,’ says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. ‘PETA has a free ‘Vegetarian Starter Kit’ for people who want to lose pounds while eating as much as they like.’”
Guess insulting 64% of your market demographic is considered a smart publicity move nowadays.

Good article. I’m all for the ethical treatment of animals, there is nothing at all wrong with that. But insulting people by calling them whales is not the way to get people on board for their cause!!!!! Ingrid Newkirk needs to step back and take a look at herself and the message she sends out, it makes people hate her, not want to help her!!!! And i agree with you Tina, there is no reason to try to scare the crap out of our kids to teach them to treat animals right, ugh……….
Good article, Ash. I agree with your disapproval of the Peta billboard. Guess all they can do is shock people. (shaking head). After the McDonald’s campaign freaking children out with their un-Happy Meals. Inside the box children found a bloody rubber chicken, packet of ketchup blood, knife-wielding Ronald McDonald, and a tee-shirt. PETA said it was all part of a bigger message. Some message, huh? Gross children out when they have no idea what’s going on. I think they should have been arrested or worse parents should have wielded a lawsuit against them for mental cruelty on their children. I have nothing against their causes, but the delivery of their message is appalling.
