No More Robocalls By Telemarketers

Good news for consumers. The Federal Trade Commission has made robocalls by telemarketers illegal. Telemarketers will need written permission by consumers who desire to have calls or offers to their home or cell phone.

Starting September 1, 2009, telemarketers who use robocalls will face fines up to $16,000 per call whether they phone previous customers or not.

Consumers are urged to call 877-382-4357 to report violators, or at Online FTC Complaint.

Calls exempt for the new law are collection agencies, charities, politicans, banks, telephone companies as long as they do not promote the sale of goods or services.
