Target Gets Fined for Selling Toys with Lead
The fight to keep toys loaded with lead from reaching store shelves continues. This time it is Target who has to pay a $600,000 fine for importing and selling toys with unacceptable levels of lead paint. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Target announced voluntary recalls of the toys. In agreeing to the settlement, Target denies CPSC’s allegations that it violated the law.
I, personally am glad to see the fine. I shop at Target all the time, but on one occasion found a posted sign by the customer service desk with pictures of recalled toys. Only to go back in their toy department to find the same toys still being sold. Of course, I called it to the attention of the customer service staff. After looking around the internet, I found similar stories about the discount store. This is a responsibility that all stores need to take. They need to keep recalled products off their shelves to keep our children safe. For the record, I am not anti-Target. I am anti-lead.
