Miracle Baby for Padma Lakshmi

Padma Lakshmi, host of Top Chef and model, is expecting her first child and it’s nothing short of a miracle. Padma, 39, confirmed the reports she was expecting and that the new baby was conceived despite her long-term suffering with endometriosis, a common cause of infertility.
It is yet to be confirmed who fathered the child, but one thing is clear. The fact that Padma conceived at all is fantastic and miraculous and should inspire hope in many would-be mothers plagued with the same condition.
“This pregnancy has been referred to by her physician as nothing short of a medical miracle, and due to its delicate nature, we ask/implore the press to respect Ms. Lakshmi’s privacy at this time,” reported a rep for Ms. Lakshmi.
Endometriosis is a condition where endometrial cells appear and grow outside the womb. The womb, or uterine cavity, is lined with these cells, which flourish and wane according to the level of female hormones present in the body. When these cells are present outside the uterine cavity, they are still subject to hormones, often times causing pelvic pain and other symptoms.
Symptoms commonly worsen during menstruation.
Endometrial cells can cause adhesions to appear as well, which are not only very painful, but can cause infertility.
Padma is most well-known for being the host of Top Chef and a fashion model. She also was married to controversial author, Salmon Rushdie for three years before they decided to divorce.
Ms. Lakshmi is currently working on helping to create a sitcom for NBC.
“I’ll produce it and I’ll help write it,” Padma commented, “I’m not going to star in it, but I’m going to have a role in an ensemble cast. There’s a limit to how much time there is in the day for me.”
