After 25 hours of surgery, twin Bangldeshi girls who were co-joined at the head, were successfully separated.  The surgery is taking place in Melbourne, Australia.  Hospital officials say the girls are doing very well after being separated.  The twins shared blood vessels and brain tissue.

On Monday, a team of sixteen nurses and surgeons began their work separating the twins.  They were given a 50% chance of survival without brain damage or other serious issues.  It will take several more hours to go through the reconstructive process.

“The teams managed to separate their brains and they are both very well,” Royal Children’s Hospital chief Leo Donnan told reporters. “Now we have the long task of the reconstructive surgery, which will go on for many hours.”  The girls will remain in an induced coma for monitoring for several days after the completion of the surgery.

“Their bodies have to recover from this, and we’ve got a lot of unknown territory we’re moving into,” Donnan said. “All I can say is that everything is in place for the best possible outcome. The main thing is that the girls are healthy.”

Little Trishna and Krishan are not out of the woods yet and medical personnel have their work cut out for them.  When they came into the hospital, they were in very good health, which gives them a good chance of survival.  We hold them up in our prayers.
