On November 9th, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Maclaren USA announced a voluntary recall for all their umbrella strollers due to possible fingertip amputations.

There have been fifteen reports of hinges on strollers made by Maclaren causing injury and 12 fingertip amputations were reported.  The danger comes when a child places their finger on the hinge when the stroller is being opened or closed.

In the recall, models affected are Volo, Triumph, Quest, Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveller.  Both single and double strollers are involved in this recall.  The strollers were sold between 1999 and November through Babies R Us, Target and other major retailers, for approx. $100 – $360.

Maclaren is asking consumer who purchased one of their strollers to contact them and get safety covers for the hinges.  Consumers can reach Maclaren for the safety kit toll-free at (877) 688-2326 or visit www.maclaren.us/recall.
