The Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Stork Craft Manufacturing Inc., have issued a recall of 2.1 million cribs.  Many cribs involved in this recall have the Fisher Price logo imprinted on them.  Some cribs carry the name, “storkcraft baby” or “storkling” on the railing of the crib.  Reports are that 110 incidents have occurred when the drop-side detaches from the crib or a child gets caught in the side causing suffocation.  These drop sides have caused four infant deaths from suffocation.   Of the cribs 1 million are being recalled in Canada and 1.2 million in the U.S.   The company had already recalled 500,000 early this year. This recalls goes back as far as 1993 for cribs manufactured since then.

Drop down cribs were designed to make it easy for parents to easily slide the side up and down to remove their child from the crib.   The cribs have come under attack from child safety advocate groups.  Toys R Us has also reported that they will be removing all drop down cribs from their stores, by January, 2010.  Over 5 million drop down cribs have been recalled within the past two years.

Consumers are asked to contact Stork Craft at www.storknet.com to receive their free repair kit which will convert the crib sides to a fixed position or call them  at 877-274-0277.
