Conviction in SJP Surrogate Theft Case

A police chief from Ohio has been indicted on three convictions stemming from an investigation into whether or not he nabbed items from the surrogate mother of Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick and then turned around and tried to sell them to paparazzi.
The surrogate mother of the twin daughters, Michelle Ross, apparently fell victim to Martin’s Ferry Police Chief Barry Carpenter, age 40. He allegedly stole countless photos, legal documents, poems, the infants’ ultrasounds and a plaster cast of a pregnant tummy, in order to advertise them to the numerous news agencies in the paparazzi market.
Barry Carpenter claims in his defense, that he only journeyed to Michelle Ross' house because he noticed her door was wide open and that he didn't steal any items "from the home". He also stated he showed the plaster cast to some reporters but at no time offered to sell it.
A jury found Barry Carpenter guilty of three charges of theft in office, receiving stolen property and tampering with evidence. He was exonerated of one count of unauthorized us of services or property and two charges of burglary.
If convicted, the police chief could serve up to 10 years behind bars. His sentencing date is December 10th. Bridgeport Police Chief Chad M. Dojack, 29, his alleged collaborator, is scheduled to be tried by jury in January.
