AMBY Baby Motion Hammock Lawsuit Recall
A consumer in Oregon has filed a 5 million dollar lawsuit against the Amby Baby Motion company, a baby products maker. The suit follows the tragic death of the man’s five-month-old child in August, making it the 2nd death linked to the product in question by the Consumer Product Safety Commission(CPSC).
Jonathan Kuzma maintains in the lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Multnomah County Circuit Court that a hammock created by Amby Baby USA was dangerous and defective and directly caused death by suffocation to his son Matteo.
After this reported infant death combined with a report of a smilar incident in June of this past year in Georgia, the CPSC issued a recall for Amby Baby Motion beds manufactured by Amby Baby USA, based out of Minneapolis. The December 8th recall called for purchasers of the product to stop usage of the Amby hammocks immediately and stated that close to 24,000 hammocks had been sold to date in the U.S.
The recall notice also states that the hammock is made up of a fabric hammock secured by a steel frame linked together by a metal crossbar and a large spring. The construction of the frame has the risk of shifting sideways and/or tilting over which could make empower the infant involved to roll and face the chance of becoming stuck against the pad of the hammock which could cause suffocation.
