Child Toy Recalls: Children's Books Recall

Posted by admin

It is unfortunate that child toy recalls are becoming more and more prevalent today.  Unfortunately, two more children’s products have been recalled during the last few weeks.

More than 200,000 cloth books that were sold between May 2004 and October 2009 have been recalled due to a high lead content.  The cloth books are called, “Big Rex and Friends” and have a picture of a big red dinosaur on the cover alongside a black and white striped border.  The back of the book holds the character series 031249260X or 9780312492601.

The Big Rex books contain a red plastic dot that has tested for large amounts of lead.  If this toxic button is swallowed it may cause serious health problems for your child.  These books were manufactured in China.  Fortunately, no injuries have been reported at this time.

Consumers who purchased this book have been instructed to contact St. Martin’s Press at (800) 347-9411 for further instructions on how to receive a full refund for this book.

The second book recall involves “Monday the Bullfrog,” published by Simon & Schuster.  This board book includes a plush frog puppet which is the cause of this safety concern.  There have been a few reports that the eyes on the frog have detached, causing a potential choking hazard.  In one case, the book arrived with an eye already separated from the puppet frog.

“Monday the Bullfrog” was sold between January 2006 and November 2009.  The characters on the back include 1416912312 and 13 as well as 9781416912316.  This book and puppet was also manufactured in China.

Simon & Schuster urges all consumers to take the product out of the reach of children immediately and to call (800) 732-9531 for refund information.  Fortunately, no injuries have been reported form this product at this time.
