10 Tips for Going Green

Posted by admin

going greenEver wonder how you can help the environment? Everyone talks about going green, but other than recycling, what can we do as individuals to help conserve our resources and reduce pollution? Here are ten tips to get you started.

  • Take shorter showers. Did you know that every one minute you shorten your shower, you save five gallons of water. That’s signficant and you’ll save on your water bill, too.
  • Use filtered water instead of bottled water.
  • Reduce the number of baths you take. You may not even take baths, but if you do, take less. You can use twice as much water in the bath tub than in the shower.
  • Use Rechargeable batteries. Yes, it’s inconvenient, but it’s worth the hassle.
  • Take your car to a car wash instead of washing it yourself. They use less water.
  • Print on both sides of the paper. Most new computers have the option of selecting double sided or single.
  • Lower your thermostat and save 10% on your energy bill for every degree you lower it. Now, that’s significant.
  • Choose the option of paying bills online instead of receiving paper bills in the mail.
  • Teach your kids to turn off the lights when not in use.
  • Change your light bulbs to fluorescent bulbs as they last a lot longer.

  1. My daughter would have a real problem with fewer baths… the child LOVES a hot bath! But we do everything we can – I will have to work on the bath issue. Your printing on both sides of the paper is excellent advice. Honestly, my printer does this but I never think to print that way. Thanks for the tip!
