Infantino Sling Recall Due to Infant Death

Posted by admin

More than one million baby slings were recently recalled by Infantino, one of the best known manufacturer of baby toys, baby carriers and baby travel gears in the USA and Canada. This decision is aligned with an investigation by the CPSP (Consumer Product Safety Commission) in which several baby deaths were associated with baby slings.

Even though the CPSP investigation didn't name specific brands or models, Infantino LLC decided to recall all inventory of Wendy Bellissimo slings as well as the SlingRider model. At least three baby deaths have been associated with these models, and the company has warned parents not to use these slings with babies younger than 4 months of age.

The problem with these slings is tied with the danger of quick suffocation, and it mostly applies to very young babies. Since they are unable to control their heads, the fabric in certain types of slings may asphyxiate a baby in as little as two minutes, if it happens to get caught over their head or nose. Parents should be extremely careful of this potential hazard, regardless of the type of baby slings they're using.

Infantino has now issued a warning asking parents not to try to fix their baby carriers to make them safer. If you already own either of the recalled models, you just need to contact the company directly and ask for a free replacement. You can choose replacing your baby sling with another model, or even by other infant products available from the manufacturer.

Remember, you can never be too careful with young babies. Although it was the fabric in the baby slings that reportedly caused some babies to asphyxiate, some of those scenarios might have been avoided if the parents had been more attentive to their babies. No baby carrier is safe enough that it will be 100% guaranteed to keep accidents from taking place : that is something that only parents can do.
