Baby Weight Pressure

Are Supermodels and Celebrity Moms making the average mom feel intense pressure to lose the baby weight? According to this article Celebrity Moms have upped the ante when it comes to getting back into your pre-baby clothes. Apparently we average types are thinking; "Gee, Heidi Klum looked spectacular and back to her regular body in no time flat, that seems like a reasonable goal!"

Put focusing on losing the pregnancy weight immediately following delivery could be harmful to the mother's health and potentially at the risk of their baby's health.

I guess the assumption is that pregnancy is never good for a career and that world will revolve better once they are back to their previous state.

But is this really true?

I think we all realize that celebrities have access to personal chefs, trainers, nutritionists, nannies and the money that lets them have the time to focus on their personal health. They probably aren't the ones that are getting up every hour on the hour when baby is on a growth spurt and needs to have a feeding frenzy. Likewise, they are able to let their hired hoard of assistants take care of the day to day drudgery while they are only responsible for themselves and the new baby. No falling asleep standing while waiting for the groceries to be rung through, they have their "people" to take care of all that.

So, really, any one who thinks that they should look similar is really into self-deception. I don't blame the celebrities or even the media, I blame a serious lack of common sense and realistic thinking on behalf of the new mom. After all, it took nine months to put the weight on, there is nothing wrong with taking some time to sensibly take the weight off.

Plus, folks like Miranda Kerr, M.I.A. and Gwen Stefani are managing to work while pregnant and are able to show that the state of pregnancy doesn't have to be the kiss of death to their careers. Heidi Klum worked through out her pregnancy and we all realize that these women are probably snapping back into form thanks to their money, but mostly thanks to the genetic framework that made them supermodels and celebrities in the first place!

So, when I hear the media report that these women are "supposedly" putting pressure on "Jane .Q. Public" to lose the weight, I get rather irritated! I think these women are actually do us a great service by remaining visible during their pregnancies and not hiding during the traditional confinement period. The more images we have of pregnant bodies, the better it will be for women every where.
