Macy's Thanksgiving Parade a Family Tradition

Posted by ashley

In my little family we have some rock solid traditions like always making an effort either attend the Macys Thanksgiving Parade or to watch it on TV.

Even with Black Friday looming over our budget we always snuggle in with a huge bowl of buttery popcorn, steaming mugs of hot chocolate and crispy, sweet, homemade snickerdoodles.

There is generally a popcorn fight at some point and every one is always trying to get the best cuddle spot (closest to the food). We often have the extended family over and various assorted neighborhood kids and there is a sense of familiarity that can't be beat.

Our photo albums are chock full of pictures of us through the years doing the same seasonal rituals and it is fascinating to see the kids (and us) growing up and still managing to find joy in each others' company. The kids will go back to their sibling rivalry the very next day. My husband and I will wait til Friday to argue about the budget and the unbalanced holiday spending. The dog will do her best to eat all of the goodies that land on the floor without becoming copiously sick on the carpet. We all band together to have a great day.

We have set jokes that we make about the floats, costumes and the ridiculous commentary that never seem to get old. I think I actually adore these low wattage comfortable family moments over the big deal reunions and vacations. Those activities all have to live up to huge (often unrealistic) expectations whereas a lazy holiday spent on the couch, eating junk food and sharing idle chit chat are just priceless.

Shoot, now I sound like a credit card commercial.

All of this to say; Happy American Thanksgiving Every one!!!! Gobble Gobble
