Maternity Clothing: 5 Fashion Pieces You Can't Live Without!

Posted by Tiffany

As Vicky Iovine writes in her book, “The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy”:

NO ONE GETS PREGNANT JUST SO THAT SHE CAN WEAR THOSE NEAT MATERNITY CLOTHES.

So how will you cope? I can tell you right now, it’s not by spending thousands at your nearest maternity store. I mean let’s be honest, you’re growing about as quick as your baby is going to do his/her first year – do you really need a bunch of outfits for every step of the way?

What should you have in your closet? Here’s our list!

1.       A Good Maternity Bra – A good maternity bra is one that has tons of clips and hooks in the back that allow your ever increasing chest to expand with no worry. By buying one you save yourself lots of money and discomfort trying to fit yourself in bras throughout your pregnancy.

2.       Leggings – Leggings are perfect! Wear them with one of your husbands dress shirts and you got yourself a great outfit! The best part about it is they expand to you. I would buy maternity leggings just because they’ll grow with you in all the right places.

3.       Long oversized sweater - The long oversized sweater right now is VERY fashionable, VERY comfortable and VERY accommodating to every step of your pregnancy. You can wear it with your leggings, add a belt, dress it up or down with a shirt underneath and no one would be the wiser.  Pick a color that’s easy to match with anything (black, navy, beige, white) and you’re good to go!

4.       Nightdresses – Your wardrobe isn’t only about the day -- make sure you’re comfy at night! There’s no reason to keep buying new pajamas every month (even though you want to) so a good idea is to stay away from shirt/pant sets and go for bigger night dresses instead!

5.       The Belly Belt – If you absolutely hate maternity wear and just want to wear your own comfy clothes then the belly belt is perfect for you. It attaches to the button on your pants and fits inside your zipper so you can turn all your clothes into maternity wear.  I would suggest a long top though – you don’t exactly want people to SEE the belly belt – It’s not an accessory but a fashion tool.

Did we forget something? Let us know what clothes you can’t live without while pregnant!

Yep! U forgot the Bella Band. This works like the belt as well and, unlike the belt, can be used as a maternity fashion accessory.

    Thank you for that! :)

  3. I agree with the leggings. Great list.
