Morning Sickness 101: What is it and how do I get RID of it!?!

Posted by Tiffany

Morning sickness plagues even the best of us. It’s said that 70-85% of pregnant women experience it! That’s no laughing matter!

That’s why we’re here to help you figure out what it is, how long it lasts and how to deal!

What is Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is a condition that causes nausea, vomiting and dizziness. It usually begins in the 6th week of pregnancy and stops around the 12th week. In most cases it’s most apparent in the morning (hence “morning sickness”) and gradually reduces as the day progresses.

Why does it happen?

There are lots of reasons why morning sickness happens. Remember, you’re carrying another living being inside of you. This baby needs energy, hormones and nutrients to grow. It’s sad that the increase in estrogen in the body (up to 100%!!!) can be the cause, as is low blood sugar. Other causes can be an increase in progesterone which relaxes the muscled in the uterus, as well as an increase in sensitivity to odors that may tip off the nausea.

How do you get RID of Morning Sickness?!

Well we can’t promise that you can get rid of it but you can definitely get some relief!

1. Eat small frequent meals throughout the day! An empty stomach will just make you feel worse.

2. Crackers are your best friend! Keep them by the bed in case you feel nauseous throughout the night.

3. Stick to Bland foods or Foods whose smell doesn’t gross you out! Room temperature foods are less likely to make you sick. Hot foods tend to have more of a smell to them.

4. Drink fluid between meals! Smalls sips only. And if you find yourself vomiting a lot, drink a sports drink to replace lost electrolytes.

5. Ginger! Ginger ale made with real ginger or some ginger tea can really help settle your stomach.
