Nicole Kidman Opens Up About Infertility

Posted by ashley

New mom Nicole Kidman may have kept her baby news quiet for as long as possible, but now that Faith Margaret has arrived safe and sound, the actress is opening up about her struggles with infertility.

"Anyone who's been in the place of wanting another child or wanting a child knows the disappointment, the pain and the loss that you go through trying and struggling with fertility,” Kidman said in an interview on the Australian 60 Minutes. “"Fertility is such a big thing, and it's not something I've ever run away from talking about."

Kidman could be said to be an expert on the subject of infertility, as well as on the options available for couples who struggle to conceive. Her family is about as diverse as they come – after struggling with infertility and suffering a miscarriage during her marriage to Tom Cruise, the couple adopted two children, Isabella, 18 and Connor, 16.

After her divorce and subsequent marriage to country singer Keith Urban, Kidman gave birth to daughter Sunday Rose and has now extended her family with daughter Faith Margaret, who is the couple’s biological daughter, but who was delivered via gestational carrier.

Kidman is now in a very happy place with her family, and despite still maintaining a successful career (she has just received a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in Rabbit Hole), is devoted to all her children. “"Children are children – you'll die for your children," she says. "And when you feel that as a parent – that's the unconditional love."

Despite being open about her current situation, Kidman is staying mum on the details of her gestational carrier. Like any mother, she’s anxious to protect her baby as much as possible from unwanted media attention, and is also striving to maintain the privacy of the woman who carried her child. Instead, both Kidman and Urban are focusing on enjoying their newly expanded family.
