Britax Stroller Recall
Any parents who have or plan to use a Britax B-Nimble umbrella stroller should be aware of a recall announced this week. The company, along with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a voluntary recall of 20,000 B-Nimble strollers in the United States and 800 in Canada.
A design flaw in the stroller's brake system can lead parents to believe the brake is engaged when in fact it is not. The brake pedal makes an audible click when pressed, but before the brake is fully engaged. Without the brake on, the stroller might move unexpectedly putting any child occupant at risk.
Britax has received 7 reports of the brake not engaging as expected, but so far there have been no injuries reported.
The B-Nimble strollers affected by the recall were manufactured since August 1, 2010 and were sold in stores across North America between September 2010 and June 2011. The specific strollers included in the recall have model numbers U311771, U311773, U311775 and U311780. If you think you may have one of these strollers, check the label on the lower frame for the model number and date of manufacture.
Parents are advised to stop using the Britax B-Nimble stroller immediately and contact the company toll-free at (888) 427-4829 or visit the Britax website for more information. They may be able to request an improved replacement stroller. If you continue to use your stroller, take extra care to be sure that the brake is fully engaged before letting go of the stroller.
