NJ Cop Delivers Baby in a McDonalds!
On Wednesday morning, one New Jersey police officer happened to be in the right place at the right time when he was summoned by frantic witnesses into a McDonald's restroom to help with an emergency delivery. Even after 24 years on the job, the veteran police officer said that delivering a baby was one of the scariest situations he had ever found himself in.
Police officer James Kniepp thought the restaurant was being robbed when a couple of people ran to his vehicle which just happened to be driving past the McDonald's, claiming that the mother-to-be had gone into labor in the ladies room. Kniepp did what any dutiful police officer would do -- he came to the woman's rescue.
As Kniepp did his best to calm and coach the mom through the delivery, he applied the skills he had learned in the Police Academy to maneuver the newborn's head and shoulders to help the mother give birth. "I just tried to talk her through it, and next thing I knew, I had the baby's head in my hands" the humble police officer told NBC. Although it was a hurried event, the woman and her 8 week premature baby were doing well as they were taken to Beth Israel Medical Center, and both are reportedly happy and healthy.
It's nice to hear that a potentially hazardous situation has turned out so well, and I'm not surprised that this event had the hero cop feeling truly scared for the first time in his 24 years of service. After all, the floor of a McDonald's restroom is one of the scariest places I can think of to give birth.
