FaceBook Adds Expected Child and Due Date to Profile Options

Posted by ashley

facebook expected childIn a little-known update, FaceBook has added the ability to list your due date on your profile if you're pregnant.

In the family section of your profile, in addition to the usual daughter/son/mother/father... there is now an option for Expected Child. You can even put in your baby's anticipated arrival date and the name you've chosen.

An announcement will show up on your wall and in your friends' news feeds that you are expecting, and your baby's name and due date will show up in the Family section of your profile, right below your Friends on the left hand side of the page.

To add your expected bundle of joy to your family list, click on Edit Profile in the top right corner of your FaceBook profile. Then choose Friends and Family from the list on the left. You'll see an option that says Family, with a drop-down menu that says Select Relation. Click the little arrow, and then choose Expected: Child.

Now, you should see boxes where you can put in your future baby's name, if you've chosen one, and your due date. Once you've filled these in, click Save Changes at the bottom of the box.

And Voila! Now your profile is sharing your news with all your friends on FaceBook.

We blogged recently about FaceBook not allowing pages for unborn children. Regardless of what side you take on that issue, at least it pointed out an important life status that was missing on profiles until now, and FaceBook developers were quick to pick up on it. On the other hand, is this the way you would choose to announce your pregnancy to the world?
