Check those keys your baby is chewing on -- a popular set of toy keys has just been recalled. The Consumer Product Safety Commission announced yesterday that Battat Inc. is recalling over 1 million sets of electronic toy keys.

The toy consists of a plastic key fob remote with buttons that make sounds, and three metal keys attached to the remote by a plastic ring. Both the metal keys themselves and the plastic key ring can break, posing a choking hazard. There have been 17 reports so far of the keys breaking, and 14 reports of the ring breaking.

The keys were sold under two brands: B. FunKeys come with an olive green or red remote, and multi-colored tops on the keys. Check the back of the remote for factory code H58000-01 or H26300-01. Parents Magazine Electronic Keys come with remotes in several colors, and keys with solid-colored tops. Check the back of the remote for factory code H26300-01.

The B. Funkeys toys were sold at retailers nationwide from April 2010 to May 2011, and the Parents Magazine keys were sold from January 2006 to December 2009.

If you have any of these toy keys, you should immediately take them away from children and contact Battat for a replacement set. For more information, call Battat toll-free at (866) 665-5524 between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or visit the firm’s website at www.battatco.com.

Full details of the recall are also available at the CPSC website.
