12-Year-Old Canadian Boy, Gaelan Edwards, Delivers His Own Baby Brother!
Parents, it may pay off to let your kids watch TV – 12-year-old British Columbia, Canada, boy Gaelan Edwards says watching medical shows prepared him to deliver his baby brother.
On Saturday morning, Gaelan’s mom began to show signs of labor. In too much pain to call the hospital, she called out to Gaelan, who came in to check on her. Her labor quickly escalated, and it became apparent that she would be having a home birth, with the assistance of her son.
Danielle Edwards began instructing her son on what to do, explaining “Gaelan, when you see the shoulders, I need you to hang on to his shoulders and I need you to pull him out.”
Gaelan, who is a fan of medical dramas and who had even read a few medical books that were in his home, stepped in to assist.
"The books have different ways to pull a baby out,” he said. He was able to deliver the baby and then even had the knowledge to clamp and cut the umbilical cord of his new baby brother.
After the delivery, mother and baby (named Kanine) were checked into the hospital and are said to be doing fine.
At SureBaby, we aren’t sure there are many kids who could have kept their cool in such a scary situation – what do you think of Gaelan’s heroics?
