Mother Kicked From Bus for Crying Baby!
Some days, there’s nothing worse than the sound of a baby screaming – but a Portland, Oregon bus driver is stirring up controversy after she evicted a mom and her baby off the bus because the child was too loud.
The story goes that a mother with a roughly 21-month-old child was traveling on a TriMet bus when the child began to scream loudly, without stopping. The driver gave a warning over the loudspeaker that the woman would need to quiet her child, but eventually had to pull the bus over and ask the woman to leave the bus.
“I can’t drive with a child screaming,” the driver told the dispatcher after the woman had left the bus.
The story has spread across the Internet, and several of the passengers on the bus have reported the incident to TriMet, saying they believe it was wrong for the driver to ask the woman to leave the bus.
Passenger Jennifer Chapman addressed the driver at the time, but was told if she didn’t like the response she could “get off the bus”.
TriMet is investigating the incident, and has already spoken with the driver, who has been driving buses for 10 years. They’re now reaching out asking the mother to come forward and share her side of the story.
At SureBaby, we know it can be tough to manage a crying baby, and we feel for the mother in this situation. But we want to know what you think – is it right for a driver to ask passengers to exit the bus if they feel they can’t perform their jobs? Is a baby crying truly that much of a distraction? Let us know what you think in the comments!
