Woman Gives Birth In Airport Bathroom!
Considering a flight late in your pregnancy? This story might make you think twice about getting on an airplane!
A woman disembarked from her plane at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport this past Sunday and gave birth to a baby boy in the airport restroom a short while later.
A BWI spokesman says that Maryland Transportation Authority Police responded to a call of a woman in labor at about 2:20pm, and an officer assisted in the delivery on the restroom floor. Both mother and baby were taken to Baltimore Washington Medical Center.
The woman's name has not been released, and there are no reports as to how far along she was in her pregnancy or what triggered her labor.
Still, if you're pregnant, it's bound to make you think. An airport bathroom is certainly not where most women envision welcoming their child into the world. This is pure speculation on SureBaby's part, of course, but we imagine she must have been in labor already on the plane, if she gave birth so soon after getting off. It must have been quite the ordeal for her, and not an experience we would wish for.
Doctors do generally consider airline travel to be safe for pregnant women, but women who are in their last month of pregnant are usually advised not to fly, just in case they should go into labor at 30,000 feet. Women at risk of preterm labor may be told to avoid flying altogether.
