Bassinet Recall – Risk of Collapse
better go check the brand and model number. Nearly half a million Burlington Basket Company bassinets were recalled yesterday. The Consumer Product Safety Commision said that if not assembled properly the bassinets could collapse, causing infants to fall to the floor.
There have been 10 reports so far of the bassinets collapsing, and two infants have received minor injuries. All models of Burlington Basket Company bassinets manufactured before June 2010 and having folding legs are affected. Models with fixed legs are not being recalled.
If you have a bassinet like the one pictured, check right away to ensure that the cross-bracing rails at the bottom have been fully inserted into the frame, and that the catch is in the fully locked position, as shown below.
Consumers are being warned to stop using the bassinets and to contact Burlington Basket Company for a free kit with instructions for proper and safe assembly. The company has put an instructional video on YouTube, as well as detailed instructions on their website. Burlington Basket Company can also be contacted at (800) 553-2300.
The company is not offering to take back the bassinets or provide refunds. Rick Thompson, CEO of Burlington Basket, assures consumers that if the assembly instructions are followed, the bassinets are perfectly safe.
