Aqua Dots Toy Recall

Published by admin under Product Recalls

Yet another popular toy has been recalled. Aqua Dots was set to be one of the hottest toys on the “Top Ten Christmas Toy List for 2007″, but not anymore. On Nov. 7th, 2007, Aqua Dots were pulled off the shelves as they contain an ingredient found in a powerful date rape drug when ingested and can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death. Three children had to be hospitalized after swallowing the beads.

I can’t imagine how a family in Wisconsin felt when their baby almost died, after swallowing the beads. “I’m thinking, ‘A child’s toy just almost killed my little girl?’” Jason (her father) said. “In 15 minutes, she went from happy to, just, completely unconscious,” his wife added. From what I can tell from the article, Baby Riley ingested about 40 beads, many of which she vomited up later. Her parents believe that that may have saved their daughter’s life. Another frightening event happened when the grandmother went to a local store and found Aqua Beads still on the shelves. She insisted that they remove them and it wasn’t until she called the corporate office that they were finally removed.

Not included in the recall are cough and cold medicines for children over the age of two.
