Gerber Infant Formula Recall

Posted by Alissa Robson

Gerber is issuing a voluntary recall of its Good Start Gentle Powdered Infant Formula, in the 23.2 ounce plastic package, after instances of health issues have been reported.

The batch number in question is GXP1684 and the product has a March 5, 2013 date of expiration. It’s being recalled due to reports that the product has a “foul odor” and that some babies who have taken it are experiencing gastrointestinal complaints and are spitting up.

According to Gerber, the product isn’t a health and safety risk, but the company is willing to provide a replacement. The company said in a statement, At Gerber, the safety and quality of our products is our top priority. If parents or caregivers have questions, Gerber is here for them. They can call the Parents Resource Center anytime, day or night, at 1-800-487-7763.”

Gerber would also like to remind consumers that only the Good Start Gentle Powdered Infant Formula with the specific batch number has been reported to have an issue.

While it may simply be a case of more (and better) exposure of issues, it does seem to us at SureBaby that there have been a lot of infant formula recalls as of late – from big name companies, no less.

We want to know – do the ongoing recalls make you nervous as a parent about using formula for your child? Do you think there needs to be improved quality checks on these products or are the recalls within acceptable limits?
