Labor Time: What to Pack for the Hospital

Posted by tina

It’s almost the time you’ve been waiting for since you first learned you were pregnant about nine months ago. You couldn’t be happier that your baby is finally about to arrive but there are still a number of things you need to think about before you head to the hospital.

Most moms will pack their hospital bag at least a few weeks early - just in case their little bundle of joy is too eager to wait the full nine months – and it’s always a good idea to be prepared.

If this is your first time in labor, you may not know exactly what to bring to the hospital. Sure, you know you need your wallet and your everyday essentials but do you really know EVERYTHING you should pack? Probably not.

Here’s your complete hospital packing checklist (feel free to remove whatever items you don’t think you’ll need):

  • A change of clothes
  • Shampoo and conditioner
  • Lip balm (or chapstick, lip gloss – whatever you want to call it)
  • Hand and body lotion
  • A pillow (or two)
  • Socks
  • Maternity underwear
  • A pen and paper
  • Your favorite snack (as long as it’s nicely packaged)
  • Something to read
  • Sanitary pads
  • Nursing bra
  • Camera (and/or video camera)

Now that you have yourself covered, you’ll need a few things for the baby as well:

  • A car seat
  • The going home outfit
  • Diapers
  • Footsies
  • A pacifier
  • A blanket

Now you’re all set to go! All you have to do is wait for the green light!
