Christmas Sugar Cookies Recipe

recipe for sugar cookies

We wanted to share our favorite sugar cookies recipe with you, yummy!  They inspire our creativity and when adding Christmas music, they make us feel all warm and cozy and help us get into the Christmas spirit.  (Of course, that’s really the spirit of Jesus!) Have fun making these delicious cookies!

Ingredients

    2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

    1/2 teaspoon baking powder

    1/2 teaspoon salt

1 cup or 2 sticks - unsalted butter (room temperature)

    3/4 cup granulated sugar

    1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar

    2 eggs

    1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Directions

Mix together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.

Use a mixer to beat the butter, sugar and confectioner sugar together in a large bowl.  Add eggs and vanilla until mixed well. Slowly add the flour mixture to the bowl with the butter, sugars, eggs and vanilla.  Mix until the dough looks completely mixed. Separate dough into two parts and wrap in plastic.  Refrigerate for two hours until firm.

Sprinkle some flour over the surface of where you are going to roll your cookies.  Don’t forget to dust your rolling pin with flour for easy rolling! Gently roll the chilled dough and with cookie cutters cut your desired shape.  If dough becomes soft again, place in refrigerator again for about 30 minutes until firm.  Then continue making your shapes.

Bake in the oven at 325 degrees for 12-15 minutes.  When they come out of the oven, let cool, then add some icing and sprinkles and enjoy!
