Woman Spends 10 Weeks Lying Upside Down to Save Pregnancy!

Posted by admin

This story is hard to believe, but does show the lengths mothers will go for the safety of their babies. Mom-to-be Donna Kelly, who had already suffered two miscarriages, went on 10 weeks of bed rest upside down in a hospital when she found out her pregnancy was at risk.

At the five month mark, Donna was told that an ultrasound had turned up signs of damage to her cervix, which indicated the baby had dropped dangerously low in her womb. Recognizing the risks, doctors advised her to lay in a bed positioned upward at a 45 degree angle to lower the force of gravity on her cervix.

For the next 10 weeks, Donna spent 24 hours a day in the bed, eating and amusing herself with books and TV, while only getting up to go to the bathroom.

“It made me feel sick at first but after a couple of days my body adjusted and I soon got used to it,” she said. “It could be boring at times but I knew it wouldn’t be as painful as losing my baby.”

Along with the unusual bedrest, Donna was also given a hormone cream to strengthen her cervix (which may have been weakened before her miscarriages when she successfully gave birth to her son Joshua), as well as a cervical stitch to reinforce the neck of her womb.

The treatments worked, and Donna gave birth to a healthy baby girl named Amelia, who, despite spending two weeks in an incubator when she was born early, is doing very well.

This is a truly unique story and that shows how far treatment of high-risk pregnancies have come. Have you heard of any other unusual treatment methods for mothers–to-be? Share them with the SureBaby team in the comments!
