AFRAID OF GETTING PG AGAIN
Posted On: 08/22/2008 04:06:24

My pregnancy the first time around was horrible. I had morning sickness from start to finish. Also, a lot of health problems along the way. I only have one child and I told my husband that I do not want anymore children because what I went through. I have read about the diffrent types of birth control and I really do not know what to do. The doctor has told me that he will put me on the pill and I explained to him that I have IBS and it runs right through me. The diffrent kinds that I have read worries me about weight gain, blood clots, pre cancer cell developement. I am only 26 years old, and when my husband and I are active I freak out because do not want to have anymore kids. I do not know what to do.

Maybe you should get some therapy.  Sounds like you either had a very traumatic pregnancy/delivery or maybe even having a difficult time being a new mother.  It can sure be a challenge, and therapy could help with all of these issues.  Otherwise, there is not guaranteed 100% birth control method, short of abstinence - and who wants to do that?!  Sex, or lack thereof, can really take it's toll on a marriage.  Have your husband go with you to a few therapy sessions and if you both decide that you do not want anymore children, then it is my opinion that the easiest method of birth control would be for your hubby to have a vasectomy.  After all, you've done the hard part.    By the way, I have 3 sons - ages 30, 20 and 10 - yup, that last one was a sur-prise - (using condoms) but our family would not be the same without him....  such a joy... and we are soooo happy we have all three of our boys!

Definitely talk to your doctor about it first off.  No matter what method you use, there are risks involved, unfortunately. Secondly, I've heard that an IUD is a bit painful going in, but SUPER effective.  If you're THAT adamant about not having more children, what about having you or your husband getting "fixed", for lack of a better word?  If that is out of the questions, I would reccomend an IUD.  I had the patch previously, and that worked just fine for me.  I have PLENTY of children (4) so I decided to get my tubes tied.

Good luck in the decision making.  In the mean time, try doubling up on condoms and foam maybe...
