Someone told me the other day that SIDS happens more to babies that live w/dogs due to some type of secret diease that dogs carry, I'm really worried cause i've never heard of this an i'm the proud mommy of 4 dogs that i would never ever think about getting rid of. If anyone knows any info. on this topic please educate me. THANK YOU!!!

After knowing a baby boy that was lost to SIDS I've been extremely paranoid when I have young infants.


I've read a few articles about SIDS and have never heard of a connection to dogs...although there was one article where researchers identified a certain bacteria (but they weren't sure if this bacteria was a cause or effect of SIDS).  There may be certain babies who are at an increased risk because of conditions that do not cause them to wake up when they're breathing is obscured, or for other reasons.


As far as I know, the best you can do is make sure you do not smoke during pregnancy or around your babies, and put your baby to sleep on it's back with no loose fitting covers.
