The first day of my last period was Aug. 15 and i was expecting my period on the 15th of this month(that's how my cycle is). I took a home pregnancy test on the 22nd of this month and it read pregnant. Ever since that same day on the 22nd i have been spotting. I have been throwing up all day on the 23rd and then it was over. And now today is the 25th and i am still spotting. My question is it normal to still be spotting and if so when can i expect it to stop? p.s. I have yet to start taking prenatals i'm not sure which one to get. And my first doctors appointment is not until Oct. 11.

Hi Diva,

Welcome to the site. Congratulations on your pregnancy! There will be plenty of time for you to read up and understand what your body is going through, so for now, I will just point you toward a few important aticles to help you adjust. However, this site is an excellent source of information so be sure to read around all of the various articles and blogs and forums, especially the Mom Blog.

What you are experiencing is not unusual for women in the early stages of pregnancy. Read this article for a thorough explanation of spotting during the first trimester of pregnancy.

As to your comment about prenatal vitamins; it doesn't really matter which one you take, the point is that you should be taking it as early as possible so that it can help your developing baby. You can read more about nutritional requirements for pregnant women here to better understand why vitamin supplementation is recommended.

There is a rather neat tool on this site called a pregnancy ticker. Check it out and see where your baby is from day to day in their development.

Hope this helps and answers your questions. Keep talking and asking and take some time to poke around and see what the site can offer you.

Hi there,

I just wanted to give you my own experience. I spotted with my first pregnancy for about 2 1/2 weeks. I now have a healthy baby girl. It is very normal, but I understand the stress you are feeling. It was very scary for me. If you are super concerned go talk to your doctor they will check your HCG levels and make sure they are progressing normally and also do an ultrasound to make sure the baby is still growing like it should. After my ultrasound at 8 weeks I spotted for few more days, but because I saw my baby and her heart beat I felt better and it eventually went away.

Just thought I'd share!
