Baby Names

With regard to baby names, children should feel special when they learn the meaning of their name. If their name represents a good character trait a child will feel better about themselves.

When selecting names whether pregnant or after pregnancy, remember that children are likely to be teased at some point in their childhood because of a names meaning. When selecting middle names, be sure to say the name out loud to make sure that the first and middle name go together. It is best to think of rhyming names that might be embarrassing as well. These are just a few suggestions that work for some. If you're looking more for origins of names, check out Baby Name Meanings and Origins.

Teasing Baby Names

While it's not easy selecting baby names and it can, in fact, be very difficult for some new or expecting parents. After all your child will have his or her name their entire life (unless they legally change it). While most parents choose a name for their baby before birth, some parents are still deciding just before bringing their baby home from the hospital. And some have decided by looking through countless baby names books, early in pregnancy.

If your are thinking about giving your new baby a name that is more of a nickname, please give it considerable thought. While they are often times cute or meaningful at the time of birth, later in life, your child might resent his name and legally change it. It's better to make a good choice right from the start. Remember, your child will probably be teased if their name is "apple" or "orange" or something else that seems like not much thought went into naming him or her.

There are some parents who thought their baby's name through and evaluated every possible rhyming name and meaning that might cause their child to be teased, and still children at school found something embarrasing to tease him or her about that the parents hadn't thought of. You just need to do the best that you can. As parents, that's really all we can do... is hope we made the right choices with our children in all areas.
