Dehydration

Dehydration is an excessive loss of water in body tissues.

 

Diaphragm

1) A contraceptive device that is fitted over the cervix of a woman's uterus to prevent sperm from fertilizing an egg. 2) The large muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen.

Dilation

The gradual opening up of the cervix to permit passage of the baby during labor. Progress is measured in centimeters; 10 centimeters is fully dilated.

Discharge

Discharge is a secretion of a substance from the body.

Doppler

A listening device that a doctor uses to hear a fetal heartbeat.

Doula

A doula is a specially trained and experienced labor assistant who provides many types of support for a woman who is giving birth.
